Welcome to Raphael's Rescue!
In 1997 I was given an Abyssinian sow for my birthday. I watched her, fed her, learned from her and loved her, and I never looked back. Raphael's Rescue is dedicated to (and named after) her. I rescue, adopt, care for and re-home any cavy in need. All other animals great or small are also welcome - though I will connect them with proper protection and care from groups more capable. I have many years of care and experience with guinea-pigs and will ALWAYS take ANY in need.
For a while I was involved with breeding. Then I came to the realisation that there are so many beautiful animals that need my help, and had to stop and critique my actions. It is a sad fact that every guinea-pig (proper name cavy), cat, dog or other pet bred means another looses their life. I can no longer condone that as a caring individual. I will not breed, or promote the breeding of any pet. All life is sacred. All animals have the capacity for great joy, elation, love, and all have the ability to suffer, feel sorrow, loss and pain.
Take a look around and feel free to email me with any questions you may have. I have provided extensive information on cavy care to aid anyone in need of answers. I have taken a short course on vet nursing and have seen many cavies through dark times where I thought they might not make it - I have been lucky to see them recover and live out the life they are entitled to.
My site can be easily navigated with the use of the tabs to the left of the screen. A 'blog' section is now available where pictures and writing about my latest activities/rescues/etc. are posted. I will update often, so check in from time to time to see what's new if you're interested.
Enjoy!
