The Sheba Miniyak
(Shebas, Mini-Yaks, "Bad Hair Day" cavies)
Shebas aren't too well known or often exhibited across Australia. They are a breed that began in the '70s, so are fairly new. Also known as the "Bad Hair Day" cavy, they actually require very little maintenance. Their hair should naturally rise and fall and appear to be in disarray. I aim to build interest in this beautiful breed and hopefully show them in both the Condition and Fancy categories this year and years to come.
I am attempting to maintain a pure line of Sheba Miniyaks, so will not breed any cavy other than a pure Sheba to my personal pure Shebas. Any animal with other breeds in the line will not be accepted or bred from. The Sheba Miniyak was de-standardised for a while because there were so many breeds in the line which resulted in a poor standard. If I want this lovely breed to survive and be shown in Australia, I have to stay pure and attempt to breed the best of the best so I can raise and exhibit excellent looking animals with busy backs, strong frontals and wonderful personalities.
